WK1 SOIL

Soil and The City – Why should everyone care about man-made soil, and why is it a political issue?
2021
Have you ever thought about the traces we are leaving in our environment? This is a common question one encounters in climate discourse, but a lesser mentioned example of this is the soil beneath our feet. In this soil-centred workshop we will talk about the phenomenon of man-made soil, and the effect this type of soil can have on the urban ecosystem. While looking at urban-industrial eco-systems, we will look at the way that soil pollution can disproportionately affect marginalised demographics. We will discuss why we often separate social and ecological issues when these are very often entangled and how an intersectional perspective can be introduced to climate activism.
